Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday said the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will sell potato at Tk 25 per kg within three days.
The minister made the disclosure after a meeting with cold storage owners, merchants and wholesalers.
"TCB will sell per kg potato at Tk 25 through truck to meet the demands of the buyers," he said.
The minister said the prices of potato- Tk 23 in cold storage, Tk 25 in wholesale, and Tk 30 in retail levels- fixed by the Department of Agricultural Marketing would be implemented strictly.
The government set the prices of the vegetable as its prices have increased unsually, hitting Tk 55-60 per kg in retail level.
Tipu Munshi said the country has adequate stock of potatos, and its sale at government fixed price would be ensured.
He said, "There is no shortage of potatoes in the country. Demand of potato has risen as flood and rain damaged vegetable cultivation somewhat. But there is no reason the prices of potato being more than government fixed ones."
