An alleged extortionist and associate of listed robber Ashik was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area early Thursday.Operational officer of Rab-2 Yeasir Arafat said a patrol team of the elite force challenged a group of people in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University area when the group was moving suspiciously at the area around 2 am.Suddenly they opened fire on the Rab members, forcing the elite force to fire back that triggered a gun battle.Aidul alias Mama Sagor, a top extortionist of Karwanbazar area of the city and associate of top terrorist Ashik was caught in the line of fire and seriously injured while other members of the gang managed to flee the scene.He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctors declared him dead.Rab members also recovered one pistol and two rounds of bullet from the area.
