The deaths related to the novel coronavirus stood at 5,348 in Bangladesh on Sunday, with 23 more fatalities in the past 24 hours.
During the period, 1,125 people newly caught the deadly virus, taking the country's tally to 3,68,690, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release.
The press statement said 9,859 samples were tested in the past day. With this, the number of total sample tests reached 19,89,664.
However, 1,587 more COVID-19 patients made recovery, bringing the total recovery to 2,81,656.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.
As of Sunday, the epidemic infected 35,171,702 people and killed 1,038,487 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 26,161,124 across the world.
