Ex-Ducsu VP Nur released hours after detention

Former Vice president of Dhaka University Central Student Union (Ducsu) and his seven supporters have been released several hours after their detention on Monday, reports UNB.

DB Joint Commissioner Mahbub Alam said, “We took them under custody for violating law and order. But later we freed them after quizzing.”

Nurul Haque Nur along with his seven supporters was arrested from Matshaya Bhaban area around 8:30 pm when they brought out a procession protesting filing of a rape case against Nur and six others.

Earlier, a rape case was filed against six people, including former Vice-President of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Nurul Haque Nur.

A female student of Dhaka University filed the case against them with Lalbagh Police Station on Monday, said Officer-in-Charge KM Ashraf Uddin.

Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, a national student body, held a protest rally at Dhaka University on Monday evening after the filing of the case. Later, a clash between them and police took place when they reached Matshaya Bhaban area.

Nur was elected VP in last year’s Ducsu polls, the first in 28 years. It was marred by allegations of irregularities.

All panels, except that of Bangladesh Chhatra League, boycotted the election. The ruling party student front dominated the polls but lost the posts of VP and social service affairs secretary.
