The High Court on Tuesday granted bail to BNP chairperson’s adviser and journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud in two cases for subversive activities.An HC bench comprising Justice Mohammad Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain passed the order after hearing the bail petitions in the cases.Advocate Khandakar Mahabub Hossain and Azam Morshed Al Mamun stood for Shawkat Mahmud.On 18 August, 2015 police arrested him for his alleged connection with subversive activities.He was shown arrested in 20 cases, including for arson attacks on vehicles, vandalizing vehicles and crude bomb blasts, with different police stations in the capital.
