Coronavirus in Bangladesh: 47 more deaths, fresh cases 2,211

The deaths related to the novel coronavirus reached 4,174 in Bangladesh on Friday as the country recorded 47 more fatalities from the virus in the past 24 hours.

During the period, 2,211 people newly caught the deadly virus, taking the country's tally to 3,06,794, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release.

The press statement said 13,741 samples were tested in the past day. With this, the number of total sample tests reached 15,14,126.

However, 3,378 more COVID-19 patients made recovery, bringing the total recovery to 1,96,836.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Friday, the epidemic infected 24,654,886 people and killed 836,112 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 17,113,748 across the world.
