Moulvibazar Zila Parishad chairman Azizur Rahman died of COVID-19 at a hospital in the capital in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Freedom fighter Azizur breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at about 2:30am.
His nephew Sajeeb Hasan confirmed the death to Jago News.
Azizur was airlifted to Dhaka from Moulvibazar on August 5 at the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He was elected as a lawmaker on Awami League ticket in 1986 and 1991 general elections.
He was an opposition whip in 1991 parliament.
He was also a former general secretary of Moulvibazar district Awami League.
