The deaths related to the novel coronavirus reached 3,557 in Bangladesh on Thursday as the country recorded 44 more fatalities from the virus in the past 24 hours.
During the period, 2,617 people newly caught the deadly virus, taking the country's tally to 2,69,115, according to a Health Directorate press release.
The press statement said 13,162 samples were tested in the past day. With this, the number of total sample tests stood at 13,15,901.
However, 1,782 more COVID-19 patients made recovery, bringing the total recovery to 1,54,871.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.
As of Saturday, the epidemic infected 20,830,254 people and killed 747,628 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 13,725,260 across the world.
