Sifat gets bail in 2 cases

Sahedul Islam Sifat, a student of Stamford University’s film and media studies department and also an aide of slain former army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, has been granted bail in two cases of murder and narcotics filed at Teknaf police station in Cox's Bazar.

Cox’s Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Tamanna Farah passed the order on Monday.

The court also ordered the handover of the investigation of the cases to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Sifat’s lawyer advocate Md Golam Mostofa confirmed his bail to Jago News.

Earlier on Sunday, Sifat’s friend Shipra Rani Debnath was granted bail in a narcotics case.

Major (retd) Sinha had been in Cox’s Bazar with them for making a documentary film. On July 31, Sinha was killed in police firing in Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive.

After the firing incident, police arrested Sifat - who was travelling with Sinha - from the spot while Shipra was picked up from a local resort.
