Coronavirus: Bangladesh reports 28 more fatalities, 2,772 new cases

The death tally from coronavirus in Bangladesh reached 3,111 with 28 new fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services. 

The country's total number of coronavirus cases stood at 2,37,661 with 2,772 people newly caught the highly contagious disease. 

Professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the DGHS, came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin on Friday.

She said 12,614 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of sample tests to 11,76,809 in the country.

Some 1,35,136 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 2,176 recovered in the past day, the official added.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing sharp increase in the infections and deaths. 

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Friday, the epidemic infected 17,492,067 people and killed 677,097 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 10,954,091 across the world.
