Doctor burnt in fire from hand sanitizer dies

A doctor, who received severe burn injuries in a fire caused from hand sanitizer in his house in the capital’s Hatirpul area on July 22, died on Tuesday morning. 

Dr Rajib Bhattacharjya, 36, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn Unit and Plastic Surgery Institute at 8:30am. 

Dr Samanta Lal Sen, Chief Coordinator of the institute, confirmed the death to Jago News.

According to family sources, the fire erupted when a bottle of hand sanitizer came in contact with a mosquito coil, leaving Rajib injured. His wife Dr Anusha Bhattacharya also received injures as she came to rescue him. He sustained 87 percent burn injuries and his wife 20 percent. Later, they were admitted to the burn unit and plastic surgery institute.   

Rajib was a physician of neurosurgery department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and his wife is a registrar of Shyamoli Central Medical.
