Bangladesh reports 35 more Covid-19 deaths

The death tally from coronavirus in Bangladesh reached 2,836 on Friday with 35 new fatalities in the past 24 hours. 

The country's total number of coronavirus cases stood at 218,658 with 2,548 people newly caught the virus. 

Professor Nasima Sultana, ADG of the Directorate General of Health Services, came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin today.

She said 12,027 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of sample tests to 10,91,034 in the country.

Some 120,978 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 1,768 recovered in the past day.

Prof Nasima said new infection rate was 21.19 percent and the same, so far, 20.04 percent. 

The rate of recovery, so far, was 55.33 percent while mortality rate 1.30 percent, the official added.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing sharp increase in the infections and deaths. 

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Friday, the epidemic infected 15,666,840 people and killed 636,789 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 9,554,890 across the world.
