The Directorate General of Health Services chief professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad has stepped down amid criticism over his handling of coronavirus pandemic.
He submitted his resignation letter to the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday.
Md Abdul Mannan, secretary of Health Service Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, confirmed this to Jago News this evening.
Prof Azad faced various allegations, including failing to provide personal protective equipment (PPEs) and N-95 masks to the physicians, nurses, law enforcers, journalists and others concerned, against him to fight the outbreak.
Besides, allegation was raised against that he did not take effective measures against unethical activities of JKG Health Care which allegedly issued fake COVID-19 certificates without conducting test.
