The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a budget of Tk 3390.69 crore for the country’s public universities in 2016-2017 fiscal year.The Commission approved the budget at its 144th full-commission meeting held on Thursday with UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan in the chair.The meeting also approved a revised budget of Tk 2826.74 crore for 2015-2016 fiscal, said a UGC press release.The meeting endorsed original budget of Tk 35.05 crore for 2016-2017 fiscal and revised budget of Tk 32.25 crore for 2015-2016 fiscal year, reports news agency.Member (Socio-Economics Infrastructure) of Planning Commission Abdul Mannan, UGC members Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain and Prof Dr M Sha Nowaz Ali, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Mohammad Alauddin were, among others, present at the meeting.
