Fazle Kabir to lead BB for 2 more yrs

Fazle Kabir will lead Bangladesh Bank for two more years as the government has reappointed him in the post. 

Financial Institutions Division of the Finance Ministry issued a gazette notification on Wednesday in this regard.

The notification read Fazle Kabir was appointed once again as governor of the central bank until July 3, 2022 as per articles Bangladesh Bank (amendment) Act, 2020.

Tenure of Fazle Kabir ended on July 3, leaving the bank without a governor.

On July 9, a bill was passed in the parliament raising age limit of Bangladesh Bank governor for two years from 65 to 67 years. 

Fazle Kabir, former Senior Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh, joined as the 11th Governor of Bangladesh Bank on March 20, 2016.

His tenure was supposed to expire on March 20 this year, but later it was extended until he turned 65, according to BSS.
