Chairman of Regent Group Sahed Karim alias Md Sahed has been arrested from the border area of Debhata upazila in Satkhira in providing fake coronavirus certificates and embezzling money from patients.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested him with a firearms in a special drive from the bank of Labangaboti River in Komarpur village around 5am on Wednesday.
Later, he was flown to Dhaka by a helicopter around 9am.
Confirming the matter to Jago News, Ashik Billah, Director (Legal and Media Wing) of RAB, said he will be taken to RAB headquarters for primary interrogation.
The arrest comes two days after a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Sahed in two cases filed over misappropriation of Tk3.68 crore.
Regent Hospital owner Sahed was absconding since RAB raided the Uttara and Mirpur branches of the hospital.
Earlier on July 9, police imposed a travel ban on Sahed.
On July 6, RAB conducted separate drives at the Uttara and Mirpur branches of Regent Hospital and arrested eight people for issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates and collecting money from COVID-19 patients.
On July 7, a case was filed with Uttara Police Station in this regard.
