The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Regent Group's managing director Masud Parvez in a case filed for issuing fake COVID-19 certificates.
He is the second accused in the case and believed to be one of the aides of Sahed, chairman of the group, in fraudulent activities.
He was arrested from Kapasia upazila of Gazipur around 7pm on Tuesday, the elite force's Media Wing Director Lt Colonel Ashiq Billah told Jago News.
Earlier on July 8, Sahed's prime aide Tareq Shibli was nabbed from city's Nakhalpara area.
Meanwhile, investigation charge of the lawsuit against Sahed and 16 others was handed over to the police's detective branch (DB).
Various allegations surfaced against Regent Hospital authorities. One is that they have been issuing COVID-19 certificates without conducing test of more than half of the collected samples that prompted a RAB drive at Uttara and Mirpur branches of the facility on July 6.
On the following day, a case was lodged with Uttara West Police Station in this connection. Since then prime accused Sahed has been into hidding.
Police, however, has issued a ban on Sahed to leave the country for fair investigation of the case.
