The Tank-lorry workers have withdrawn their indefinite strike enforced over the murder of Sylhet division Tank Lorry Workers' Union general secretary.
They called off their strike around 1:30pm after a meeting with superior officials of Sylhet Metropolitan Police and ruling party leaders.
Later, the workers announced work abstention across the country on Sunday and for 48 hours in Sylhet.
The Tank-lorry workers gave three conditions before police. These are: withdrawal of Dakshin Surma Police Station officer in-charge Khairul Fazlul, police official Ripon Das and Dakshin Surma Police Outpost in-charge will be withdrawn, and arrest of the prime accused.
Tank-lorry Sramik Union president Shahzahan Bhuiyan said they decided to call off the strike after police accepted the three conditions.
Sylhet city police deputy commissioner (traffic) Faisal Mahmud said they sought some time to arrest the killers of worker leader Iqbal Hossain Ripon.
Meanwhile, Sylhet Division Tank-lorry Owners' Association president Humayun Ahmed demanded arrest and punishment of the Ripon's murderers.
Earlier on Friday night, Sylhet division Tank Lorry Workers' Union general secretary Iqbal Hossain Ripon and worker leader Babla Ahmed Talukder were attacked by miscreants in Dakshin Surma area in Sylhet.
They were rushed to Osmani Medical College Hospital, Sylhet in critical condition where Ripon died.
