The deaths tally from coronavirus in Bangladesh reached 2,275 as the country recorded 37 more fatalities in the past 24 hours.
During the period, 2,949 people tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, taking the country's total to 178,443.
Professor Nasima Sultana, ADG of the Directorate General of Health Services, came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin today.
She said a total of 77 labs across the country tested 13,488 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of sample tests to 918,272 in the country.
Some 86,406 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 1,862 recovered in the past day.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing sharp increase in the infections and deaths.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.
As of Friday, the epidemic infected 12,404,709 people and killed 557,746 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 7,235,697 across the world.
