An elderly couple in Odisha's Ganjam district in India allegedly died by suicide after their 27-year-old son, a frontline worker at a quarantine centre, died due to coronavirus. The couple was alleged unable to come to terms with the death of their son, reports India Today.
The deceased have been identified as Rajkishore Satapathy and his wife Sulochana Satapathy. They were residents of Narayanpur Sasan village under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district.
The couple's son, 27-year-old Simanchal Satpathy taught at a school in S Pankalabadi village and was working as a frontline worker at a quarantine centre since May.
The 27-year-old was admitted to Aska coronavirus hospital after he developed a fever. He was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on July 1 after his condition worsened.
Simanchal Satpathy tested positive for coronavirus on July 2 and died the following morning.
Saddened by the untimely death of their son, Rajkishore Satapathy and his wife Sulochana Satapathy ended their lives by hanging.
While Rajkishore Satpathy was found hanging from a tree near their house, the body of his mother was found hanging inside the house.
Police reached the spot and sent the bodies for autopsy.
