Wari put under lockdown

Wari area of the capital has been put under lockdown for the next 21 days from 6am today and will continue till July 25 to prevent the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Tipu Sultan Road, Jahangir Road, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway from Baldha Garden to Joy Kali Temple, Lalmini Road, Hare Road, War Road, Rankin Road and Nawab Road has been come under lockdown.

A total of 100 volunteers will work in three shifts for providing assistance to residents of Wari.

Two booths have been set up for the COVID-19 test here. Full-time doctor as well as ambulance will be available for emergency medical services.

Bangladesh so far reported 156,391 coronavirus cases and 1,968 deaths. The country reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8. 

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
