The government has decided to shutdown production at 25 state-owned jute mills under Bangladesh Jute Mill Corporation (BJMC) by providing 100 percent dues of the workers of the mills.
Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina made the decision after a meeting at Ganabhaban on Thursday, reports UNB.
Dr Ahmed Kaikaus, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, said this at a briefing at the Prime Minister's Office.
The goverment alloted Tk 5,000 crore to pay dues of 25,000 workers.
Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi on Sunday announced that state-owned BJMC will be halting operations to stop piling up losses.
