Buriganga launch capsize: Case filed against 7 people

A case has been filed against seven people with South Keraniganj police station in connection with a launch capsize in the Buriganga River.

Mohammad Shamsul, Sub Inspector of Naval Police sadarghat thana, filed the case early Tuesday accusing the people, including the owner of Mayur 2 launch. 

Confirming the case to Jago News, Mohammad Shahjaman, officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj police station, said they are trying to arrest the people.

However, Rasel Shikder, Duty Officer of Fire Service Headquarters, said the rescue operation is going on.

At least 32 people were killed on Monday morning when a small launch, named Morning Bird coming from Munshiganj, sank in the Buriganga after a larger one - Mayur 2 - in reverse horrifically crashed into it near Farashganj Ghat in Dhaka.

BIWTA and the Shipping Ministry formed two committees to investigate the incident.

The BIWTA probe team was given 72 hours to submit its findings, while the other team was given seven days.
