Coronavirus recoveries in Bangladesh pass 50,000

Bangladesh today confirmed 1,829 more recoveries from the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally above 50,000.

With the latest additions, the number of recoveries reached 51,495, Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate, said at a press briefing through online on Thursday.

The death toll in the country rose to 1,621 as 39 new fatalities were reported over the past day. The total number of COVID-19 cases nationwide reached 126,606, with 3,946 new infections, she said.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths. 

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 213 countries and territories.

As of Tuesday the epidemic infected 9,547,109 people and killed 485,333 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 5,189,474 across the world.
