COVID-19: 37 die, 3,240 infected, 1,048 recover in 24-hr

Thirty-seven people have died with coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.

The death toll now stands at 1,425, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, said during an online briefing.

Three thousand two hundred and forty people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures take the total number of infections in the country to 108,775.

A total of 14,032 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8. 

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 462,955 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 8,780,493 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 4,641,418 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
