Bangladesh on Tuesday recorded the highest single-day fatality and case numbers of COVID-19.
The country recorded 53 deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours, the daily record since the first reported death on March 18, Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate, said in the regular online briefing.
The total live casualties stand at 1,262 with the new ones while the country also detected the highest one-day infections with 3,862 new cases, surging the total figure to 94,481.
However, so far 36,264 COVID-19 patients recovered from the disease.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.
The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.
The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 439,512 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
As many as 8,134,990 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 4,247,111 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
