The overall health condition of Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, infected with coronavirus and pneumonia, is improving gradually.

“The infections in his lungs are improving and he’s been spending most of the time   without oxygen ,” said Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital’s Prof Brig Gen (retd) Mamun Mostafi.

In a statement on GK’s Facebook page, he said Dr Zafrullah is facing trouble in speaking due to sore throat.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra Public Relations Officer Forhad Hossain said Zafrullah’s physical condition is now stable with gradual improvement.

On Tuesday, an online medical board was formed comprising local and foreign doctors for the treatment of the Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder as he was infected with coronavirus and sever pneumonia.

The condition of Zafrullah, who tested positive for coronavirus, deteriorated slightly on Thursday last after he developed breathing complications.

He has been receiving treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in the city's Dhanmondi area under the supervision of Brig Dr Mamun Mustafi and Prof Dr Najib.

Zafrullah, also a freedom fighter, underwent coronavirus testing with the kit developed by Gonoshasthaya which found him to be Covid-19 positive on May 25.

Four days later, a RT-PCR test at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) also found him positive for novel coronavirus.

He was given plasma therapy thrice to help strengthen his immune system in bid to beat the deadly virus.
