Bangladesh reports highest daily deaths from COVID-19

Bangladesh today confirmed single-day highest 46 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 3,471 new cases of infection.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 1,095 and the number of total infections stood at 81,523. 

Some 502 patients recovered from the virus during this time, increasing number of total cured patients to 17,250.

In the last 24 hours, 15,990 samples were examined and out of them 3,471 got positive results for the virus, Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8. 

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 424,137 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 7,613,578 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 3,852,889 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
