The chief of Intensive Care Unit of Square Hospital, Dr Mirza Nazim Uddin, lost his battle against coronavirus.
He passed away at the hospital's ICU on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment, an on-duty physician of the facility confirmed.
Dr Nazim was infected with COVID-19, the disease caused by novel coronavirus, around a month ago.
The doctors in Bangladesh like elsewhere around the globe are at higher risk to contract the deadly virus as they come in contact with the virus patients while treating.
Bangladesh on March 8 first confirmed its coronavirus cases and since then it has been seeing rise in both infections and fatalities.
Today the country recorded the biggest daily jump of 42 coronavirus related deaths, taking the tally to 888, and reported 2,743 more cases, bringing the total to 65,769.
