MoED seeks Tk 126cr allocation for non-MPO teachers

The government wants to bring the non-MPO teachers and employees under its special assistance programme so that they can deal with financial difficulty caused by the coronavirus shutdown.

The Ministry of Education has made proposal to the Prime Minister seeking up to Tk 126 crore as one-time financial aid for more than 2 lakh non-MPO teachers and employees across the country, sources concerned said.

In first proposal, the MoED sought one-time Tk 8000 for per teacher and Tk 4000 for per employee while in the second proposal the ministry sought one-time Tk 5000 and Tk 2500 respectively for each teacher and employee.

It needs Tk 78,96,76,500 to financially aid the affected non-MPO teachers and employees as per the second proposal.

The Education Ministry will request the Finance Division for allotting necessary amount of money after PM's approval to any of the proposals, according to the sources.

The MoED said that more that 2 lakh non-MPO teachers and employees get salary-allowance from tution fee realized from students, other fees, and institution's own fund.

But they have been without salary-allowance since the government shut educational institutions in mid March following first coronavirus cases were detected in early of the month. That is why it needed to make special allocation for them, the ministry said.
