Another policeman dies from coronavirus in Dhaka

Another member of Bangladesh Police died from coronavirus at a hospital in the capital on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Md Rasel Biswash, 35, sub-inspector of Special Branch (SB), said a press release.

Rasel was diagnosed with coronavirus on May 24 and was undergoing treatment at Impulse Hospital where he died in the afternoon, reports UNB.

Bangladesh Police expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.

The body was sent to the deceased’s home town Bagerhat for burial.

With the death of Rasel, a total of 15 policemen in the country have died from coronavirus so far, said police headquarters.

According to sources at Police Headquarters, the total number of coronavirus-infected police members was 4,258 until May 28.

Among them, 1,514 are from DMP, the sources said.

Meanwhile, health authorities confirmed the detection of record 2,029 new patients in the last 24 hours, raising the total cases to 40,321. Fifteen more people died from the virus during this period, taking the death tally to 559 on Thursday.
