DNCC mayor dissatisfied over United Hospital’s fire safety measure

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor M Atiqul Islam today expressed dissatisfaction over the fire safety situation at the city’s United Hospital where five patients died in a fire at its coronavirus isolation center last night, reports BSS.

“It is very much painful as the patients came to the hospital for recovery, but they died in a fire in the hospital,” the DNCC mayor told the journalists after visiting the hospital this morning.

Atiqul said the extended part of the hospital had no fire fighting facilities and even there was no fire team or drill.

Even eight out of 11 fire extinguishers are date-expired and there was no designated person for operating hydrant, he added.

Chief DNCC Health Officer Brigadier General Mominur Rahman Mamun, Fire Service and Civil Defense officials and local leader, among others, were presented during his visit.
