Bangladesh coronavirus cases drop; fresh deaths 21

Bangladesh on Tuesday reported a sharp decrease in new infections of coronavirus compared to that of last couple of days, with 1166 people newly caught the virus.

The country yesterday recorded the biggest daily jump of 1975 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic. And the trend of new cases was also upward in last few days.

In the past 24 hours, samples of 7,407 people were examined. Among them, 1166 tested positive for COVID-19, making the country's total to 36,751, DGHS's ADG prof Dr Nasima Sultana said.

During the period, 21 more people died from the deadly disease. With this, the number of such deaths stood at 522, she mentioned in Directorate General of Health Services' regular bulletin on the pathogen.

The official also said a total of 7,579 COVID-19 patients recovered, with 245 new ones.

She also ssaid that a total of 2,58,411 samples were examined since the outbreak started in the country.

Prof Nasima called on all to stay at home and follow health guidelines issued by the health department to stem the transmission of the pathogen.

Bangladesh first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths.

The highly contagious virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 213 countries and territories.

As of Tuesday, the pathogen infected 5,603,143 people and killed 348,167 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 2,381,620 across the world.
