Road crashes claim 12 lives in 7 dists

Twelve people lost their lives and several others received injuries in road accidents in seven districts on Tuesday.

The incidents took place in Sirajganj, Moulvibazar, Jashore, Jhalokathi, Tangail, Natore and Gazipur between this morning and afternoon, according to the information collected by Jago News' district correspondents.

In Sirajganj, an oil-laden truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Nalka Phuljor area of Ullapara upazila around 8:30am, leaving four, including a couple, dead.

Two people were injured in the incident, Hatikumrul Highway Police Station officer in-charge Khairul Islam confirmed, adding that the deceased and injured boarded the truck to return home due to transport shutdown.

In Moulvibazar, two people were killed as a microbus hit a tree after its driver lost control over steering. 

Nine others were hurt in the accident, and they were sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, according to the police.

In Jashore, a truck ran over a young man in Patibila Balikhola area in Chaugachha upazila this morning.

Locals said the speeding truck rammed into the motorcycle of Rakib Hasan, 35, a sales representative of Olympic Food, and from Satkhira, leaving him seriously injured.

He was rushed to Chaugachha Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

In Jhalokathi, a teenage girl met her tragic end on road after a truck hit a motorcycle she ridding in in front of Malipur Ak Kaderia shrine in Nalchhiti upazila around 11am.

She was identified as Rupa Akter, 14.

In Tangail, a man died and six others received injuries in a road accident in Darunsaitta area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway this afternoon.

The injured were admitted to Tangail General Hospital, said Alenga Highway Police Outpost sub-inespector Adam Ali.

In Natore, a truck collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sherkol area in Singra upazila around 11am, leaving one dead and two others injured, police said.

In Gazipur, a covered van ran over two people named Mehedi Hasan and Rina in Shreepur upazila's Mulaid area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 12:30pm when they were crossing road.

Mawna Highway Police Station sub-inspector Chand Mia confirmed the matter.
