Rice blast disease detected in Feni

The blast disease has been detected in half ripe rice fields in Parshuram upazila of Feni, leaving the farmers worried about losses.

According to upazila agriculture office, the disease, caused by a fungus known to scientists as Magnaporthe oryzae, infected around 10 hectares of land out of 2,450 cultivated this season in the upazila but it kept rising everyday.

Upazila agriculture official Md Kamruzzaman said they will visit the affected fields on Sunday and give necessary advice to the farmers about what to do for stopping the outbreak of the disease.
