Somoyer Alo journalist dies with coronavirus symptoms

A journalist of Daily Somoyer Alo died with coronavirus symptoms- fever, cold and cough- early Wednesday.

Deceased Mahmudul Hakim Opu worked with the daily as a sub-editor.

Earlier, the daily's chief reporter Humayun Kabir Khokan died on April 28 after being infected with the deadly virus.

Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) organizing secretary and Somoyer Alo senior reporter Habibur Rahman told Jago News that Opu's wife found him dead during Sehri.

The late mediaman had been suffered from COVID-19 symptoms, quoting his wife, Habibur added.

The media workers across the world are at high risk to contract the virus as they have to work amid lockdowns. 

A good number of journalists in Bangladesh have already been tested positive for COVID-19, promtping some houses to choose alternative way for staying in operation.

Bangladesh confirmed its first COVID-19 cases on March 8, and since then it has been seeing hike in the number of infections and deaths.

The country today recorded 790 coronavirus patients, the highest single-day spike, taking the total to 11,719, and total deaths 186.
