Over 100 govt employees contract coronavirus

More than 100 public servants have been infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country; most of them field level ones.

Seventeen different level officials, including deputy commissioner, ADC, UNO, AC land, and executive magistrate, tested positive for the virus, according to the Ministry of Public Administration.

Among the infected, one officer and two employees died.

As per a circular issued by the Finance Ministry, a coronavirus-positive government employee will receive Tk 5 to Tk 10 lakh from the government.

And if any dies from the deadly virus, his or her family will get financial assistance of Tk 25 to Tk 50 lakh, said the circular.

Bangladesh confirmed its first COVID-19 cases on March 8, and since then it has been seeing hike in the number of infections and deaths.

The country on Tuesday recorded 786 coronavirus patients, the highest single-day spike, taking the total to 10,929, and total deaths 183.
