The members of Bangladesh police are being infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) significantly, with 60 more caught the virus in the past 24 hours.
As of Monday, 914 cops tested positive for the deadly virus and five died, according to the data provided by the force's different units.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been hardest hit with 449 personnel contracted the virus.
Some 315 police members were kept in isolation on suspicion of having coronavirus, and 1,250 more quarantined for coming in contact with them.
Some 58 cops, however, recovered from the epidemic.
Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of police headquarters, told Jago News that they have asked more than 2 lakh members working in field to keep themselves protected by maintaining health guidelines.
Besides ensuring treatment for the corona-positive police personnel, the higher officials, and line chiefs visit them in hospitals to help them maintain stamina, the AIG added.
He also said that the headquarters instructed respective units to stand by the family members of the ill police.
Bangladesh confirmed its first COVID-19 cases on March 8, and since then it has been seeing hike in the number of infections and deaths.
Today the country recorded 688 coronavirus patients, the highest single-day spike, taking the total to 10,143, and total deaths 182.
