The government has directed to keep open the all primary schools in the country's haor areas to accommodate the paddy harvesting labourers.

The direction was made in a letter issued by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Monday.

The letter has already been sent to the field level officials asking them to unlock the doors of the all primary schools' facilities in haor areas so that the workers engaged in harvesting paddy can stay nights there.

The district primary education officers and upazila ones concerned have been instructed in the letter to monitor the accommodation.

The ministry secretary Akram Al Hossain on Tuesday told Jago News that next one month is the period of harvesting paddy. That is why the government has decided to keep open haor area schools so that workers sleep well at night.

Bangladesh government has taken initiatives for the paddy harvesting labourers to travel from one district to another despite existing transport shutdown aims to avoid food crisis amid coronavirus lockdown.

In the onset of novel coronavirus in the country, the government ordered all educational institutions to close in an effort to stem the spread of the deadly virus that claimed 101 lives and infected 2,948 here as of Monday.
