Barguna locked down as virus cases keep rising

The local administration in Barguna locked down the Bangladesh's southern district from this noon in an effort to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.

As a result of the restrictions, a ban was imposed on the flow of people in and out of the district until further notice. 

Four more people were infected with COVID-19 and one died from the virus in the district on Friday, taking the infections and deaths total to nine and two.

Among the dead, two were residents of Sadar, and rest two of Bamna and Betagi upazilas respectively, said civil surgeon Dr Humayun Shahin.

Deputy commissioner Mostain Billah said police have started works to find out those who were in contact with the virus patients and keep them in quarantine.

Coronavirus kept spreading to newer districts of Bangladesh since the country first confirmed its cases of the deadly virus on March 8. 

Some 1,838 people caught the novel coronavirus and 75 died from the virus in the country as of Friday.
