The government-declared holiday to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 has been extended till April 11.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday, reports UNB.
The government announced general holiday till April 9. With Friday and Saturday, the holiday will be extended till April 11, said Sheikh Yusuf Harun, secretary of the ministry.
A general 10-day holiday was declared from March 26 to April 4. The government announced holidays for five days from March 29 to April 2. March 26 was a public holiday on the occasion of Independence Day, while March 27 and 28, and April 3 and 4 are weekends that merged with the five-day holiday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said the holiday might be extended till April 9.
She said this while holding a video conference with officials of 64 districts to coordinate the ongoing activities to contain coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the country announced the death of another coronavirus patient. So far, Bangladesh has confirmed 54 cases and six deaths.
COVID-19, first reported in China, has so far infected 872,972 people globally and killed 43,275 of them, according to Worldometer.
