Akij Group, a business conglomerate of the country, today resumed the work to construct a 301-bed specialized hospital for the coronavirus infected patients in the capital’s Tejgaon industrial area.
An official of the group seeking anonymity confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, one of the entrepreneurs of the hospital and also the founder trustee of Gonosasthaya Kendra, said we hope that the government will seriously support us and also give necessary clearances soon.
Earlier on Saturday, some local people led by Shafiullah Shafi, president of Tejgaon thana Awami League and also the DNCC 24 No ward councilor, protested against setting up the hospital fearing spread the coronavirus in the area.
They chanted slogans against the construction, attacked the site and manhandled some workers there. Later, Akij Group postponed their construction work.
