Seven medical students expelled over ragging

Satkhira Medical College authorities expelled its seven students for six months and fined 11 others ragging and breach of discipline.

Academic council and discipline committee in an emergency meeting took the decision on Monday.

The expelled students are MBBS second year student Anik Saha, Joy Sarker, Mohammad Hanif, Mahfuza Islam Dina, Preyoshi Rani Roy, Farha Shamanto Rahman and Sharmin Fahria.

It was known that some freshers complained to the college authorities that they were ragged by second year students on January 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Following this, principal prof Dr Kazi Habibur Rahman formed an eight-member committee to look into the allegations.

The probe body on March 9 submitted the report where 18 students were found guilty.

On Monday, seven out of 18 were expelled for six months, and the rest 11 were fined Tk 5,000 each.

Principal Habibur said they won't tolerate any indiscipline like ragging in the institution in future.
