HC declares 7 March a National Day

The High Court today declared 7 March a National Day and also asked the authorities concerned of the government to publish a gazette notification within one month.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after disposing the rule filed in this regard.

On November 20, 2017, the HC issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in three weeks why it will not declare March 7 as Historic National Day.

The court asked cabinet secretary, finance secretary, home secretary, housing and public works secretary and cultural secretary to reply to the rule. The court also asked cabinet secretary to inform it about the action taken on the court’s directive on December 12.

The court in its rule also asked why a stage will not be recreated at the place, where Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stood and delivered his historic speech on March 7, 1971, accorded reception to former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and where Pakistani occupation army surrendered to the allied force on December 16, 1971.

The High Court also asked why a statue of Bangabandhu addressing a rally with his index finger raised, will not be built at that place.
