The full verdict of the High Court (HC) declaring gambling in echange of money illegal across the country has been published.
Holy Quran's verses-- 219 of Surah Al Baqara, and 90-91 of Al-Maidah-- about gambling have been used as references in the verdict.
The 25-page verdict was published on the website of Supreme Court on Thursday evening.
Gambling merely for recreation and without money is allowed, said the full verdict said.
Earlier on February 10, the HC delivered its verdict declaring all kinds of gambling in exchange of money or any other things illegal at 13 elite clubs, and across the country.
The clubs are: Dhaka Club Ltd, Uttara Club Ltd, Gulshan Club Ltd, Dhanmondi Club Ltd, Banani Club Ltd, Officers’ Club Dhaka, Ladies’ Club Dhaka, Cadet College Club Dhaka, Chittagong Club Ltd, Chittagong Seniors’ Club Ltd, Narayanganj Club Ltd, Sylhet Club Ltd, and Khulna Club Ltd.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) also upheld the HC verdict.
