A hacking group for last three years hacked Facebook IDs of many people, including those of film stars, to blackmail them for ransom.
Each of the 20-member hacking group during the period earned around Tk 1.50 to 2 lakh per month from the wrongdoings.
They would often change their own Facebook IDs to avoid monitoring of law enforcers.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) came up with the disclosure in a press conference in its media center in city's Karwan Bazar on Saturday.
Earlier, the elite force arrested two hackers from Mohakhali on charge of bid to defame individuals by hacking their Facebook IDs and realize money through illegal means.
RAB also seized four mobile phones, a laptop, 20 SIM cards, apps for creating NID, SIMs with Bkash ID, and Facebbok ID hacking materials from the possessions of arrested Meer Masud Rana, 35, and Md Sourav, 19.
Film stars Misa Sawdagar, Zayed Khan, Aruna Biswas and many other ones were present at the press conference.
At the briefing, RAB-2 commanding officer Ashiq Billah said Shilpi Samity general secretary Zayed Khan complained to them of his Facebook ID being hacked. During investigation, RAB also found allegations of hacking 15 more film actors' Facebook accounts.
Main culprit of the group is Nasir, a Bangladeshi expatriate in US. Recently he has been arrested by US police on charge of cybercrime, said Ashiq.
Arrested Masud and Sourav both are talents and they would take Tk 50,000 to 1 lakh each returning hacked ID to its holder. Thus each of the hackers earned around Tk 1.50 to 2 lakh per month through the misdeeds, the RAB official added.
But they hacked film stars' Facebook IDs for not anything else but to show their own credit, Ashiq also said.
In which process the hacking group hack ID and harass
In association with some dishonest people of film industry, they develop friendship with famous heroes and heroines and subsequently begin to hack their Facebook IDs.
They collect date of birth, full address including name and Email address of film stars. They also make befriend mutual friends of the stars.
Then, the hacking group together reports against the targetted Facebook ID to facebook authorities.
Sometimes the hacking group itself shares nude photograps on the wall of actors' or targeted people's Facebook accounts and report to Facebook that prompts, sometimes, the social media platform to withdraw the IDs.
Later, the hacking group contact with holders of targeted Facebook IDs or people familiar to them and demand money in exchange of giving back the IDs.
They also harass account holders by posting naked photos on their wall or sending explicit photos or messages to close ones from their IDs.
