Nirmalendu Goon seriously ill, shifted to ICU

Veteran poet Nirmalendu Goon is seriously ill and has been shifted to Intensive Care Unit of Labaid Hospital in the capital. 

Kabita Parishad president and also Dhaka University’s pro-vice chancellor Muhammad Samad on Thursday confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

Goon is suffering from pneumonia and respiratory problems, said Samad. 

On Wednesday night, Goon was admitted to the hospital. 

Goon, who emerged as a poet in the 1960s, published his first collection of poems Premangshur Rakto Chai in 1970.

He has received several major awards as a poet including Independence Award in 2016, Ekushey Padak in 2001 and Bangla Academy Award in 1982.
