At least 15 people died and 40 others went missing as a trawler carrying Rohingyas capsized in the Bay of Bengal in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday midnight.
The incident of capsize took place in north-west Bay of Bengal at Cheradip in Saint Martin’s Island when they were heading towards Malaysia illegally.
Bodies of the deceased were recovered from the Bay. Identities of them could not be known yet.
Bangladesh Coast Guard and Navy are jointly conducting a searching operation to rescue the missing people.
Bangladesh Coast Guard’s Saint Martin’s Station Commander Lt Col Nayeem Ul Haque on Tuesday morning confirmed the figures of death to Jago News.
Sixty-two Rohingyas were also rescued alive in the incident, he added.
