Police on Thursday afternoon recovered the body of little Asha Moni from a canal in city's Kadamtali area, five days after her going missing in the water body.
A diver team of Fire Service recovered the body from D and D Project's canal at Mohammadbag under Kadamtali Police Station around 1:30pm.
Ershad Hossain, duty officer at Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters, confirmed the matter.
Locals said Asha Moni alongwith peers Abdullah, Farhad, Nayeem and Ibrahim was playing with a ball near their home on Saturday.
At one stage, their ball fell on garbage on bank of the canal, and she went to take it but drowned in water.
Soon after the incident, locals tried to rescue her, and later divers started rescue operation.
After five days' efforts, they managed to trace the body.
Asha Moni's father Md Ershad alongwith family lives in a rented house in the area and runs a grocery. He hails from Brahmanbaria district.
