Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh is ahead in the early vote counting of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election.
In 979 out of 1,150 polling stations, Taposh bagged 3,65,032 votes while his near rival BNP's Ishraque Hossain 1,97,775.
Election Commission Secretariat joint secretary and DSCC returning officer Md Abdul Baten officially started declaring the polls results around 5pm in city's Shilpakala Academy.
Earlier voting in DSCC election began at 8am and ended at 4pm without break amid various allegations, including EVM difficulties.
In DSCC, there are 1,150 polling centers for 24 lakh 53 thousand 194 voters. Of them, 12 lakh 93 thousand 441 are male and 11 lakh 59 thousand 753 are female. DSCC has 1,150 polling centers while it has 75 general and 25 reserved wards.
